This family devotional is designed to be an enjoyable, self-contained, non-complicated, and biblical experience for the whole family. With 52 lessons, you can meet once a week as a family for a year—to read, learn, and grow together in God’s truth and God’s design for your family. Each lesson has six parts: a scripture reading, a puzzle to solve together, discussion questions, a family challenge for the week, a short prayer to pray together, and a suggested scripture memory verse—with occasional parenting tips scattered “along the way.”
Is there anything more central to the experience of family life than the family table? It is the place where faith is expressed in giving thanks, where traditions are celebrated as passed-down-through-the-generations recipes are shared, where community is forged as daily “high and lows” are revealed, where serving is demonstrated, and where family values and ethos are on display.
The recipes collected here in The Family Table are “tried and true” family favorites.

The recipes collected here in The Family Table are “tried and true” family favorites, representing three generations of cooks who range from neophytes to self-avowed “foodies.” Almost all are imbued with history, encompassing family legends and folklore, failures and successes, but most importantly, they have been the vehicle for carrying love, care, and sustenance to friends, neighbors, and “angels unaware” for decades.
Our culture has exchanged the family table for meals on the run, front-row dining in view of the TV, individualized meal plans, or microwavable servings for one. Our hope is that this compilation of our favorite recipes will be helpful as you affirm the goodness and potential of the family table, or establish it as the standard for your family.
We invite you to sort through this cookbook, try the recipes that have warmed our hearts and homes, and join us in making memories and building traditions with your families and friends, as we have with ours. We pray that God meets you there as He has for us, for generations.
“Men, if you want to be a better husband, father, and follower of Christ, but often feel like you miss the mark, this book might be for you. Be assured, you are not alone . . . To add to this sense of failure, the best-known passage on marriage in the Bible, and one our wives have put to memory, instructs us as husbands to “love your wives, as Christ loved the church . . . ” Now that’s a bar we can barely see, let alone reach. What husband can love his wife like Christ? Who do our wives think we are? Jesus?” (From the introduction by Paul Friesen)
A dad shares his heart and wisdom with his three daughters regarding a life-changing decision: marriage. Through 52 personal letters to Kari, Lisa, and Julie. Paul Friesen pens his insights on the importance of convictions, character, considerations, and chemistry as they relate to relationships.
